Ethnic Policies and the nomadic Northeast China

In 1954, the People's Republic of China established its framework for ethnic governance in the constitution, codifying a delicate tension bwtween autonomy and unity. 

 

Through the lens of the Mongolian, Oroqen, and Xibe groups of Northeast China, this project investigates the friction between traditional lifestyles and state-led economic development.
